Generic Autodidactic Models, also known as Models Genesis, were developed by researchers at Arizona State University. They are ex nihilo (made without manual labeling), self-taught (learned by self-supervision), and generic (served as source models for generating application-specific target models). Their rigorous testing shows that in all five target 3D applications, including segmentation and classification, Models Genesis considerably exceed learning from scratch. All pre-trained Models Genesis are available at https://github.com/MrGiovanni/ModelsGenesis.
A crucial part of many robotic applications, including self-driving cars, is 3D object detection. While many systems depend on pricey 3D sensors, such LiDAR, to generate precise 3D estimations, strategies that utilize stereo cameras have lately demonstrated promising results at a cheaper cost. Current solutions attack this issue in two stages: To create a pseudo LiDAR point cloud, depth estimation from stereo pictures is first conducted. This point cloud is then utilized as input to a 3D object detector. Due to the representation mismatch between the two tasks' optimum metric spaces, this solution is however unsatisfactory. A model was put out by Cornell University researchers that integrates these two tasks and executes them in the same metric space.

AMD Linux engineers have been working on providing Smart Access RAM (Resizable BAR) support to RadeonSI as the Gallium3D OpenGL driver since late 2020, and performance has improved since that time. The makers of this OpenGL driver, however, realized that the advantages hadn't necessarily materialized, therefore they disabled the SAM/ReBAR support before eliminating it altogether. The RadeonSI Gallium3D driver no longer supports SAM/ReBAR as of today's Mesa 22.3.7 stable upgrade, which is scheduled for the upcoming Mesa 23.0 point release and has been present in Mesa 23.1-devel Git for a few days. By providing the CPU with immediate access to the complete vRAM frame-buffer, AMD Smart Access Memory aims to "harness the full capability of the graphics card memory". Simply PCIe Resizable BAR (ReBAR) is what AMD Smart Access Memory is, however it is branded for AMD Ryzen + AMD Radeon system combos.
BeagleBoard.org, a provider of open hardware, has introduced two new boards: the portable Beagle Connect Freedom and the rapid prototyping BeaglePlay, the latter of which offers what it calls "the most versatile open source performance platform available."
"BeaglePlay is an exciting addition to the BeagleBoard.org family and will enable thousands of applications to be prototyped faster than ever before," claims BeagleBoard.org Foundation chief executive Christine Long of the company's latest creation. "At this extremely competitive price point and ease of use, more developers' work becomes like play!"
